Program Offerings - Fall 2023 Programs and Classes

Saturday Fun Day (Ages 8-17) Whether Mom and Dad are looking for a little free time and/or your self-advocate is chomping at the bit to get active and have fun amongst peers, we’ve got you covered! Come join us for monthly fun as we play games, perform karaoke, get our craft on, and so much more!
When: First Saturday of the month, 10AM-2PM 
Where: DSAW Office in Fox Cities: 526 W Wisconsin Ave, Appleton, WI 54911

DSAW Wellness: (Offering September-May) (Ages (10-17) & (18 and over) This daily living skills program will get you moving and grooving while learning important fitness habits! Participants will work together to make a healthy snack, discuss healthy choices, and work out! Participants will get active through many different types of fitness - Just Dance, Yoga, Obstacle Courses, Drum Fit, and so much more!

When: Thursdays 1:30-3:30pm (18 and over) / 4:00pm - 6:00pm (10 -17 years of age) Where: DSAW Office in Fox Cities 526 W Wisconsin Ave, Appleton, WI 54911

Rad Rec (Ages 18+) This community-based program provides 4 hours of fun social interaction and outings for our awesome adults! Rad Rec events are for participants 18+.
When:
Fourth Saturday of the month, 10am-2pm, Second Tuesday of the month (hours TBD), and Third Thursday of the month (hours TBD).

Skills Training Academy (Ages 18+)  This hands-on programming will include daily living skills, fun activities, wellness workouts, technology instruction, meal planning & preparation, and so much more! Included in this course, every participant will receive a login and avatar on the My Full Life platform to track and log their progress on skill-building in the following areas: Connections, Fun & Talents, Wellness, Getting Around, My Place, Community Engagement, Earning My Way, and Lifelong Learning.
Participants ages 18+ can attend Monday & Friday 10AM-3PM **Wednesday will be added on 9/6/23 running 3 days a week through May 31, 2024

NOTE: Also coming in Fall – Social Skills. For ages 12-17

Participants will have the opportunity to engage in activities that will help develop social, emotional, and physical wellness skills. Participants will engage in hands-on learning opportunities to build specific skills like conversations with peers, friendships, problem solving skills, teamwork, turn taking, and much more!

When: Tuesdays 4:00pm - 6:00pm (Start date TBD, please let us know if you are interested as that helps us with getting the class rolling.)

Daily Living Skills Services

Virtual Daily Living Skills 
DSAW's virtual daily living/independent living skills training offers access for individuals with disabilities to achieve their person-centered goals. DSAW works with self-advocates and families to accomplish goals and help you achieve your dreams! Outcomes that are obtained through this service include; Connections, Fun & Talents, Wellness, Getting Around, My Place, Community Engagement, Earning My Way, and Lifelong Learning. To get started:

One-on-Ones and Small Groups: 
DSAW is proud to offer Daily Living Skills Services on a 1:1 ratio (one participant to one staff), as well as through 2:1, 3:1, or 4:1 DLS Small Groups. These evidence-based, one-on-one daily living skills training are available at home and/or in the community. We provide individualized support focusing on developing skills and abilities specific to YOUR needs. Develop your skills in cooking and healthy eating, shopping, money management, scheduling, laundry, and personal hygiene, as well as support navigating your community (just to name a few!). This program is perfect for youth and adults looking to hone your independent living skills with tailored goals and hands-on applications!


Respite Services

One-on-Ones:
DSAW offers Respite Services on a 1:1 ratio (one participant to one staff). 
Need a break? We can help in the community or at your home. Explore your interests, talents, community, and hobbies with a DSAW staff member.  

Community-Based Small Groups: 
DSAW offers Community-Based Small Groups on a 2:1, 3:1 or 4:1 ratio (participant to one staff). 
Meet new people by joining 2-4 peers to explore your communities and interests together. DSAW will supply one of our AMAZING staff to moderate and facilitate group activities and conversation, while encouraging independence! We’ll practice community engagement through different experiences such as volunteering, attending local outings, and exploring hobbies. Small group participants should have an interest in social interaction, meeting new people, and contributing to small group interactions. Small groups are for participants 18+.
***DSAW offers door-to-door transportation services as an add-on to our Community-Based Small Groups. Pick-up and drop-off are each billed as one trip charge on the participant’s plan. 



Summer 2023 Programming

EXTRAordinary Adventures (Ages 8-17)

*EXTRAordinary Adventures will be returning Summer of 2024 with more information to come around that time. Each week of EXTRAordinary Adventures there will be a different theme that works on different skills like following rules, communication, feelings/emotions, coping skills, team building, sportsmanship, and much more! This service will be hands-on learning with some instruction including many different activities and community outings!

Summer Career Exploration (Ages 15+)
Learn how to match your strengths and skills to a job that you’ll find fulfilling and enjoyable! What does your dream job look like? What are you good at? We’ll assess your skills and work with you to develop them so you can secure a job that best fits your capabilities. You’ll learn how to job search, how to fill out an application, how to build a resume, and how to interview. We’ll also tour local businesses and experience different jobs firsthand!

Free Fraternal Programming

DSAW also provides free programs for the friends and family members of a person with Down syndrome. See below for our current offerings in your region, and click here for our statewide, virtual support groups.

Cost

DSAW offers both paid and free services. Contact your IRIS consultant, Family Care, or CLTS case manager to help you add these programs into your life/day.

Tim Giuliani, DSAW’s Operations Manager, can help you with all billing and authorization-related questions. If you do not have access to one of these funding streams, you can also opt to pay privately. Cost will not impact someone’s ability to access and participate in DSAW’s educational programming. We do have need-based scholarships available.

All of DSAW’s classes and programs are taught by trained, background-checked, skilled professionals.
