Milwaukee Young Leaders Academy - MCW Night

  • MCW 8701 West Watertown Plank Road Wauwatosa, WI, 53226 United States (map)

At this session of Young Leaders Academy, we will be taking a field trip to visit medical students at the Medical College. We'll be talking about how to advocate for ourselves at the doctor's office and learning about our self-directive voices. This will be a great learning experience and an opportunity to learn more about the medical field. Self advocates and parents are both strongly encouraged to attend. The first hour will include dinner and small group discussion. The self advocates will even get a chance to act as the physician! We’ll be on the second floor of the Medical Education Building. Don't miss out on this night of partnership with our medical student volunteers!

Our Young Leaders Class is a respite program coupled with a unique curriculum that will introduce students to important topics such as work ethic, attitude, communication skills, time management, problem-solving, acting as a team player, self confidence, ability to accept and learn from criticism, flexibility/adaptability and working well under pressure, personal hygiene, nutrition, and how your body talks. Each class will include a recreational activity as well! The teacher for this class is Amy Thomas, DSAW's Programs Coordinator. Amy will use a variety of instructional techniques including video modeling, role-playing, visuals, and hands on learning to drive the content home. In addition, we will have several expert guest presenters.
