Introduction to American Sign Language with HEAR Wisconsin

Communication is key! Join Caty Bulgrin and Ruth Stuhr from HEAR Wisconsin for a presentation about American Sign Language (ASL) as well as the services and technology available at HEAR Wisconsin. Part of the time will be dedicated to an Introduction to ASL lesson including the manual alphabet, common phrases, and natural gestures!

Teacher of the Deaf & Hard of Hearing

Ruth Stuhr is the Program Coordinator for the Adult Day Services - Community Access for the Deaf Program at HEAR Wisconsin. In this role, she coordinates job coaching, daily living skills training and ASL instruction for group home staff and caregivers. She has a master’s degree in Exceptional Education with certifications in Deaf Education, Early Childhood Special Education, and Educational Interpreting. Ruth's professional affiliations include American Association of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, SE Wisconsin Training Initiative, and Special Needs and Disabilities Leaders Forum. She is a volunteer team leader for Nathanial’s Hope Buddy Break which provides respite care for parents of children and adults with special needs.

Caty Bulgrin, Director of Operations HEAR Wisconsin

In her role as the Director of Operations at HEAR Wisconsin, Caty Bulgrin provides marketing, communications, finance, and website oversight. As a member of the fund development team, Caty writes grants and assists with event planning. She is responsible for supervising the Adult Day Services - Community Access for the Deaf Program which serves individual with disabilities who are also Deaf. In addition to her full-time job, Caty is a volunteer guardian for two people with disabilities. Caty has her master’s degree in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in rehabilitation counseling. She is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor.
